Techsail -VPP Polars

Sailfish Yacht Analyzer 5

Sailfish Analyzer 5 has been recently updated to work with Windows 10. It has long been a good way to generate a set of starting polars for various sail sets provided you know your boat's physical data well or are willing to obtain that data.

There are basically two ways to generate polars:

  1. Record polars with a program like Polar_pi or Polauto For Windows user, Uses real time data from your instruments.
  2. Calculate the boat's polars from basic boat physical data. The Weather_Routing Plugin used to have a VPP program to generate polars and the code is still available, but it has been removed from the plugin in an effort to simplify it. TechSail Sailfish Yacht Analyzer 5 also accomplishes the task.

Techsail is a good way to develop polars using the second method.

Regarding Hulls with traditional full keels and props in an aperture, some of the necessary data is missing.

I have used this software for a number of years, to develop an understand for the appropriate size of my headsails, and we do have a full keel, but I do miss the graphic and data for a full keel and prop aperture that was in previous versions.

The website is here, it is not open source, and it is just for Windows. http://techsail.com/sailfish-yacht-analyzer/
